EQ: What are exponents?

BR: Evaluate the expression.

Lesson:

  1. Discuss BR.
  2. Discuss power, exponent, and base.
  3. Express the meaning of the power in words and then with numbers of variables.
  4. Evaluating expressions.
  5. Discuss grouping symbols.
  6. Evaluating expressions with two variables.
  7. Evaluating expressions with grouping symbols and exponents.
  8. Discuss the origins of the terms squared and cubed.
  9. Finding the volume of cubes by using the formula V = s3.
  10. Discuss a word problem using volume and exponents.

Assignment:
Algebra I Textbook: pp. 12 – 14 #’s 17 – 59 odd, 61 – 67 odd
