EQ: How do I graph linear inequalities in one variable?

BR: Solve each equation.

  1. 5x – 7 = -12
  2. 6 = 3 – x
  3. clip_image006
  4. 8x = -32

Lesson:

  1. Discuss BR.
  2. What is an inequality? (Discuss >, <, ≤, ≥.)
  3. Discuss graphing inequalities in one variable.
    • x < 2
    • x > -2
    • x ≤ 1
    • x ≥ 0
    • –x >1
    • –x ≤ -4
    • –x > -4
  4. Word Problems.
Sue ran a 2-kilometer race in 8 minutes. Write an inequality to describe the average speeds of runner who were faster than Sue. Graph the inequality.

Abu was sure that he didn’t score less than 3 on his algebra test. Write an inequality to describe Abu’s possible score. Graph the inequality.

Assignment:
pg. 337 # 1 – 5, 8 – 13, 20 – 30, 71 – 79 odd
