You have the following task to complete this week. Overall, it will force you to use most, if not all, of the skills we have learned this year. You will be using the Internet to complete this assignment. Here are your requirements:

You have been given the task of completing your holiday shopping during the last full week before Winter Break. Your goal is to spend no more money than you need. To be sure you are going to do so, you have limited the amount of money you can spend to $250. You must purchase a gift for each member of your immediate family (mother, father, sister, brother, or who is responsible for your care). You may also buy one gift for one friend. Your plan is to browse many of the local retail stores online to find prices prior to buying the gifts. For this task you must do the following:

In a Microsoft Word document, write one sentence naming all of the members of your family and a friend, if you choose, for which you are buying gifts.

Example: I am planning to buy gifts for my mom, dad, Randy (my brother), Erin (my sister-in-law), and Mikey (my nephew).

In the same document, create a list of the gift(s) you plan to buy for each of the person(s) you listed in number 1.

Each gift should have the following information contained within its description: the name of the item (as listed word for word from the web site), the web site where it was found (which store), and the price of the item.

As you generate your list, please create a table in which you will list the total cost for each item you plan to purchase. For instance, if you plan to purchase 4 items, you should create a table that is 6 rows and 2 columns (I will explain why there are two extra rows shortly). In the first cell of the first column, you need to place the heading Gifts, in bold face type. In this column, you must place the name of each item in its own cells. In the last cell of this column, please place, in bold face type, the words Total Cost. In the first cell of the second column, you will place the word Price. In each of the other cells, you will place the price of the corresponding item from the first column. The last cell of this column will be where you will place you total cost of all the items you have bought. Below is an example, however, your prices do not have to be exactly fifty dollars for each gift, because if you do, you will not be factoring in sales tax for your purchases (which we will do later).

Gifts

Price

Dick’s Sporting Goods Gift Card

$50.00

J.C. Penney Gift Card

$50.00

Best Buy Gift Card

$50.00

Wal-Mart Gift Card

$50.00

Toys R Us Gift Card

$50.00

Total Cost

$250.00

Just a little note: If you are adding a table in Word, all you need to do is to go to Table on the menu bar. After clicking Table, select insert then table. A new window will pop up and ask you for the number of columns and rows. The number of columns will be two, no matter what, and the number of rows will be two more than the number of gifts you are buying. So, if you are buying seven gifts, you will need nine rows.

After you have completed your table, you will then need to calculate the total cost of your items including the sales tax. You are to assume you are purchasing all items in West Virginia, so the sales tax rate will be 6%. In a sentence state the amount of sales tax you must pay and the total cost with the sales tax.

After you state the total cost, in a few sentences, please detail the process you used to find the amount of sales tax and the total cost you paid.

You finished assignment is due by the end of the day Friday, December 19.
When you are finished, you need to let me know so that I can come around and save your document to a flash drive.

Here is the list of stores for you to use:

Wal Mart
Best Buy
Circuit City
Target
EB Games
Old Navy
American Eagle
Abercrombie & Fitch
J.C.
This assignment will be worth 60 points and graded using a rubric. The rubric looks like this:
